The Correspondent is the world’s most successful ad-free, collaborative, and member-funded journalism platform. Founded in the Netherlands as De Correspondent in 2013, it is now expanding to the English language as The Correspondent following a world record-breaking crowdfunding campaign in November 2018 that raised over $2.5 million from more than 45,000 founding members. Its mission is to provide its members with unbreaking news, helping them understand the underlying forces that shape our world. The Correspondent will officially launch on September 30, 2019.
And we need you to make that happen!
We are looking for a Membership Director who will lead the growth efforts of our journalism platform. This job is full time (40 hours per week). You’ll be based in our headquarters in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Knowledge of Dutch is not required. Living in or near Amsterdam is.
Membership is the reason The Correspondent exists. Members are at the heart of what we do because they improve our journalism (by sharing their knowledge) and because they support us financially (the vast majority of our revenue comes from membership). We are an ad-free platform, because we want our readers to be our only stakeholders.
We want to build a membership division that is concerned with growing our membership base by attracting new members and engaging our current ones so that our journalistic productions are a) financed by members and b) a true collaboration between correspondents and our member community. Whenever we cover a topic, we aim to include the knowledge and expertise of our members.
Reporting to our CEO, your responsibilities as Membership Director will include:
Define membership goals (strategic and financial) for the Dutch and English platform (pre-launch, Y1, Y2).
You have a data-driven and test-and-learn mindset. You like to support your decisions with data and measure if your plans work.
Mission-driven — You’ll be part of a team that is hugely passionate about the future of collaborative journalism. We believe our journalism can help people understand the world around them and how they and others can contribute to solving society’s greatest challenges. You’ll be joining an organization that continually challenges itself to be a more sustainable, diverse, vibrant, and rewarding place to work as well.
We’re looking to fill this position on May 1, 2019, at the earliest, and June 1, 2019 the latest. To apply, click on “Apply now” and answer the questions that follow before April 15, 2019. (Please note: we are not accepting traditional letters of application for this position.)
With luck, we’ll soon be working together!
